He cites an article that points out that Illinois is having problems paying their bills and echoes the trite claim that Scott Walker turned a deficit into a surplus. That is, if you happen to forget that there was no deficit and that the surplus is a lie.
But that's not the real kicker. The "Huh?" moment comes when Burri tries to lord it over Occupy Chicago and then writes this:
So what you’re saying is: dealing with the government is more fair for those with connections than for those without. Is that what you’re saying? Because it sounds like that’s what you’re saying.Uh huh.
Like there's no cronyism in Walker's administration, right?

Also, Illinois is getting federal money for high speed rail, as opposed to Wisconsin paying 64 million for upgrades to the Amtrak lines from Chicago to Milwaukee, with no extension of the train to Madison, the Dells, or Minneapolis, which was part of the plan in the 800 million that we turned down, because it would cost 7 million to maintain. (Someone doesn't understand that 64 million is more than 7 million)
ReplyDeleteI would have liked to see the rail project started, it might have been several years before anyone in the far reaches of the state could have benefited, but still, gotta start somewhere, right?
ReplyDeleteAnd even though I support, and wish I had any access to, all public transit, well..., I hate to say it, but Walker said, "no," to taxing the public in anyway, shape, or form on the rail issue.
I hope Wisconsin doesn't get ANY Federal money for rails, period.
Governor Walker and his crew need to get THAT particular money from the private sector from here on out.
Unless Governor Walker was just telling us the good story where us little people will be free of the burden of civic responsibility that will come with his election?
Governor Walker's "silent majority" is going to have to pick up the tab on this issue. AND I HOPE THEY ENJOY IT.
Anonymous, the state has a process for considering future transportation needs and making plans. It has information about how the rest of the state benefits, which routes are the best, environmental impacts, what kinds of rail ridership can be expected, etc. The plan that Walker shot down was developed in Wisconsin over 20 years with public and private input. So the train project was not a gamble. Whether you were in favor of it or not, the research and planning was available to the public in black and white from the Dept. of Transportation.
